Frequently Asked Questions

What does it feel like to by hypnotised?

As you enter the hypnotic state, your body and mind feel extremely relaxed and comfortable, most people experience heaviness of limbs, others feel light and floaty. Your breathing slows down the more you relax and you are completely aware of what is going on around you. We experience hypnosis quite naturally within a normal day by daydreaming, or a familiar car journy that appears to take no time at all.

Can anyone by Hypnotised?

Most people of a normal intelligence can be hypnotised as long as they want to be. The degree of hypnosis varies from person to person as to how deep they go, but when you have a complete understanding of the process you will allow yourself to go deeper each session.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?

Because hypnosis is a compeletely natural state, you can bring yourself out at will. If a therapist were to leave you alone (this would not happen) you would quite naturally come out of the hypnotic state feeling as though you had just had a restful nap.

Will I divulge my deepest secrets?

No, you cannot be made to do or say anything that you don't want to. You will reject anything that is not appropriate for you. You are completely aware and in control the whole time.

How many session will I need?

Each individual is different but usually 2-5 session will be required depending on the presenting problem. More deep rooted conditions may take longer but there will be a review after the third session. Treatments such as smoking cessation can be achieved in just one session. Each treatment is tailor made for the individual to attain maximum benefit.

How do I choose a therapist?.

Always check your therapist is properly qualified to deal with your condition, and that they are a member of an organisation that governs the ethics and code of conduct of its members such as the British Society of Clincial Hypnosis www.bach.org.uk It is a good idea to phone the therapist first to get a 'feel' of whether they will suit your needs. The therapist should be able to answer any of your questions to put you at your ease.
